What you're actually getting
Jelly Bean Factory is the Irish brand that does the flavours properly. Not the waxy, vaguely fruity pellets you get in a supermarket multipack. These have a thin shell, a soft centre, and the flavours actually taste like something. The pear one is spot on. The popcorn one divides opinion. My colleague nearly threw one at me when I handed her one without warning.
A 900g jar is a lot. More than you think. I had one on my desk for about three weeks before it ran out, and I share an office with four people who have no self-control whatsoever.
Who this is actually for
Honestly, this works for a few types of people:
- Anyone hosting something and wanting a centrepiece sweet jar without spending a fortune
- Parents who want to buy in bulk and ration it out (good luck)
- People who subscribe and save and want a regular hit of something decent
It is not for you if you want low sugar, if you're particular about gelatine (not vegetarian), or if you think jelly beans are beneath you. Fair enough.
One honest reservation
The Subscribe and Save price is the real draw here. Without it, the value is fine but not spectacular. Also, the jar itself is plastic, not glass, which is a bit of a shame given how good it looks in product photos. Small gripe, but worth knowing before you picture it on your kitchen counter looking all artisan.
